Saint Hripsime Church rises in Vagharshapat, the holy city the world knows as Echmiadzin. It is one of the great achievements of early medieval Armenian architecture — a tall, clear-cut domed church whose proportions have been studied and admired for centuries, and which today is recognised as part of Armenia's UNESCO World Heritage.

The story of a martyr

The church honours Hripsime, a Christian woman remembered in Armenian tradition as a martyr from the very dawn of the country's faith. The building was raised over the place tied to her memory, turning a story of devotion into enduring stone.
