The heart of Gyumri
The Holy Saviour Church — Surb Amenaprkich — stands on the central square of Gyumri, the main city of Armenia's Shirak region. A monumental 19th-century church built from the warm local stone, it is one of the city's most recognizable landmarks and a listed cultural heritage monument of Armenia. Its scale and symmetry make it the visual anchor of Gyumri's historic center.

Endurance and renewal
The church was severely damaged in the devastating 1988 Spitak earthquake and has since been the focus of long restoration. Today its restored silhouette is a symbol of Gyumri's resilience — a city that lost much and rebuilt with patience. Around it, the old quarters preserve the distinctive black-and-tan tuff architecture for which Gyumri is loved.
An off-roader, driver-guides, and access to places an ordinary car can’t reach: Satani Kar (the natural bridge), the Vorotan gorge, hot springs.

Gyumri sits high on the Shirak plateau and is known for cold, sharp winters. Check the forecast for the city before you travel, especially out of season, so the highland weather works with your plans rather than against them.
