What is this place

Katnarat is a small village in the central part of Armenia's Lori Province, not far from Vanadzor. It arose in 1923 as a state farm (sovkhoz) and was formerly called the Lori Sovkhoz.

The name Katnarat is linked to milk (katn in Armenian): these lands were long known for dairy farming. In 2009 the Katnarat dairy factory opened here.

It is a small village among the fields and pastures of central Lori. The residents keep livestock and work the land, while the roads to Vanadzor and the villages of the Gugark valley pass nearby.
