Geghamasar is a mountain village in the east of Gegharkunik Province, above the Masrik plain near Vardenis, at about two thousand metres; it was formerly called Shishkaya.
The village lies high on the mountain plateau of the province's eastern edge. The former name, Shishkaya, was in time changed to the Armenian Geghamasar. The climate is harsh — a long winter and a short summer.
People keep livestock and mow the mountain meadows. All around lie mountains and high pastures.
